Imagination Lyrics
Laura Branigan
Lyrics
He says that he can read my mind,
the power to turn iron into gold
She says she's seen the other side
And knows the place the fire burns all night
There is an answer to the question,
so long ago down below
It's a hard real life, every day
Once you have it, it never goes away
CORO:
It's in the pocket,
when you're really, really lucky
when your fantasy
becomes reality,
living inside your imagination
It's in the pocket,
when you're really, really lucky
when your fantasy
becomes reality,
living inside your imagination
Your magic of the secret door,
I can take you down and show you more
It's easy, once you know the way,
it's farther than the closest thing you are
You've got to walk right through that fire,
it will not burn you
and the once you may love,
only life, won't make it or just burn away
CORO:
It's in the pocket,
when you're really, really lucky
when your fantasy
becomes reality,
living inside your imagination
It's in the pocket,
when you're really, really lucky
when your fantasy
becomes reality,
living inside your imagination
You've got to walk right through that fire,
it will not burn you
and the once you may love,
only life, won't make it or just burn away
Imagination,
Imagination,
Imagination,
Imagination.
Song & Lyrics Facts
"Imagination", written by Jack White and John Van Tongeren, is a song recorded by American singer Laura Branigan. It was released on October 12, 1983 as the fourth single from her third studio album Self Control (1984).
The track features backing vocals from Branigan's then-boyfriend Gregory Harrison. The lyrics of "Imagination" describe how Branigan's imagination helps her to cope with loneliness. Musically, it follows in the synthpop/dance-pop style of most of the songs on Self Control. A music video for the song was also shot, featuring Branigan dancing and performing the song at a nightclub. The single peaked at number 16 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and number 11 on the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart. An extended version of the song was included on Branigan's remix compilation album Touch (1985), which featured additional instrumentation and an extended outro. The song has been covered by numerous artists over the years, including Pat Benatar, who included a live recording of the song on her 1991 album True Love. The original version of "Imagination" remains one of Branigan's signature songs and continues to be performed regularly during her concerts.
