The Waterboys is a folk rock group from Scotland, formed in 1983 by Mike Scott. The band released their album Peace of Iona on April 13th 2019.
This album was written and produced by Mike Scott and featured the current lineup of Waterboys members; Steve Wickham (fiddle/mandolin), Brother Paul Brown (keyboards) and David Hood (bass). The genre of this album is a mix of Celtic Folk, Rock, Gospel and Blues music. The lyrics for the songs are all composed by Mike Scott, with some traditional Irish tunes included too. The title track of the album “Peace of Iona” is an ode to the Scottish island where Mike Scott found solace and inspiration during his time there. It has been described as a beautiful and uplifting song which speaks of hope and peace. Other tracks such as "Where the Action Is" and "Long Strange Golden Road" continue to explore themes of longing, love and redemption.
