The Trashmen's Surfin' Bird was released in 1963 as part of their debut album, Surfin' Bird. The song was written by Carl White, Al Frazier and John Harris and performed by the Minneapolis-based rock band.
It is a combination of two R&B hits from the 50s; "Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow" by The Rivingtons and "The Bird Is the Word" by The Flamingos. The lyrics are simple but catchy, with the main hook being chanted over and over again. As well as its appearance in Stanley Kubrick's classic film Full Metal Jacket, it has been featured in many other movies, TV shows and video games since.
