Innocence (Acoustic) Lyrics
The Airborne Toxic Event
Lyrics
I want to disappear
I just sleep all day
These spots on my hands
My skin just like sand
And the air so cold
I shudder and I can?t see
The carpet on my feet
The sweat stains on the sheets
With cough syrup and drugs
Bandages and gauze
The razor?s dull
The water cold against my skin
The radio lull
The static buzzin? round like tin
And all these empty plans
The ink stains on my hands
And everyone says
The best words for the gray
Are these weary mourning tomes
I?ll probably save mine too
If heavens just a long road home
Tell me it?s true
I?ll go too
I?ll go too
I?ll go too
Well I lost my innocence today
I could feel her in my bones
My bones my bones my bones
My blood my blood my blood my blood
And I woke up tired scared and sad
So drained
I felt so bad
Today, today, today
What you steal, you steal, you steal, you steal
What you say, you say, you say
What you feel, you feel, you feel
Which is nothing but hollow
Thin as air
Oh I could die I just don?t care
Forget happiness I?m fine
I?ll forget everything in time
I swear I didn?t know who you know
Me how I can?t let go
And we?re not gods we?re just hacks
All the light below the cracks
The scars the sea just breaks
The ugliest scenes the worst mistakes
and everywhere I see her face
such a beautiful child
such an awful waste
And there?s no innocence like hers
Just emptiness and nerves
And this light
From the window of my car
She?ll never see it
Oh my God
I was so surprised
You blew up in my face
Lord I lost my nerve
Oh my God
Oh my God, Oh my God
and I tear, I tear
so hard
and I tear, I tear
so hard
and I beg
and scream I was wrong
so mercy?s gone
Oh my love
Song & Lyrics Facts
The Airborne Toxic Event is an indie rock band from California, formed in 2006. The song "Innocence" (acoustic) is taken from their debut self-titled album released on January 29th, 2008.
The album was produced by Mikel Jollett and features a wide range of musical styles including folk, post-punk, alternative rock and classical music. The lyrics were written by lead singer/songwriter Mikel Jollett and the band consists of six members: Mikel Jollett (vocals, guitar), Steven Chen (guitar, keyboards), Anna Bulbrook (viola, keyboards), Noah Harmon (bass), Daren Taylor (drums), and Adrian Rodriguez (percussion). The acoustic version of “Innocence” is a moving ballad that speaks to the power of new love and the hope it brings. It's a mid-tempo track with delicate instrumentation featuring piano and strings. Lyrically, the song captures the fragility of young love as Jollett sings “We are so small and fragile / We are so helpless still / But we have this innocence / That will never die”.
