New Kids on the Block is an American boy band that rose to fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The group consists of Donnie Wahlberg, Joey McIntyre, Danny Wood, Jordan Knight, and Jonathan Knight.
They released their debut album titled "Hangin' Tough" on September 19th 1988 through Columbia Records. The song "Happy Birthday" was written by Maurice Starr and Michael Jonzun and originally appeared as the B-side to their single "Please Don't Go Girl". It was later included on their second studio album, "Hangin' Tough", which was released on October 3rd 1989. Genre wise, it's a pop/R&B track with lyrics wishing someone a happy birthday. The song features all five members singing lead vocals at some point throughout the track, accompanied by keyboards, drums and other instruments.
