Written by members Shazam Conner, Dino Conner and Solomon Conner, the song is an ode to living life to the fullest before death. Fever for da Flavor marked a transition in sound for the group, moving away from their earlier New Jack Swing sound towards more traditional soul music. The lyrics of "The Day I Die" describe a man who is determined to live life to its fullest until his last day, singing that he will “party like it’s my last night alive”.
