The track was written by Alice in Chains vocalist and guitarist Jerry Cantrell, with additional vocals from Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan. It is an alternative rock/grunge song which features dark lyrics about death and despair. Musically, it consists of heavy guitar riffs and pounding drums combined with melodic bass lines.
